Jeff Haarlow has resigned as men's basketball coach at Berry, announced Vikings' athletic director Todd Brooks.

The resignation from Haarlow's basketball duties is effective immediately. Derek Taylor, the team's assistant coach, will serve as the interim head coach through the end of the current 2012-13 season. Haarlow will stay on staff at Berry with teaching and other administrative duties through the end of the academic year.

Haarlow was in his 11th year as the head coach at Berry. He leaves with a 137-181 (.430 winning percentage) career record. This year's team has a 4-15 record and is 1-7 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Vikings have five conference games and the SAA tournament remaining.

Haarlow previously spent four years as an assistant to former head coach Brooks at BC. He also was a golfer and basketball player during his undergraduate years at Berry. Haarlow earned NAIA All-American honors as a Viking golfer in 1996, his senior season.

"We appreciate all Jeff has done for Berry College," Brooks said. "He has helped transition us to NCAA Division III and has laid a solid foundation for future years. He is an outstanding person and we wish Jeff and his family the very best in this change."

Berry will conduct a national search to fill its men's basketball head coach position at the end of the season.
