Colorado College overcame a 13-point second-half deficit to force overtime, but Trinity University scored the first eight points in the extra session and held on for a 60-55 victory in the championship game of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Trinity led 41-28 after Heath Hopson sank a pair of free throws with 11:07 remaining in regulation, but CC mounted a furious comeback and tied the game with 15 seconds to go on a layup by sophomore forward Chris Lesnansky.

TU had a pair of chances to claim the victory in the closing moments, but Lesnansky blocked a shot by William Young with five seconds to play and Zach Lambert misfired on a three-pointer at the buzzer.

After falling behind 53-48 with 2:06 remaining in overtime, junior guard Ryan Milne connected from behind the arc with 1:13 to go, but four points was as close as CC would get.

Trinity clinched the victory by making 9 off 11 free throws in overtime and 26 of 30 for the game. At the other end of the court, Colorado College made six of seven attempts from the charity stripe.

Milne paced CC with 15 points and three assists. Lesnansky finished with 10 points, while senior forward Ian Rewoldt grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and added six points.

Hopson and Robert Kitzinger each scored 16 points for TU.

Colorado College had to overcome a double-digit deficit in the first half, too.

Trinity scored 13 of the first 15 points to grab an 11-point lead after Craig Saltarelli knocked down a jumper just 7:39 into the first half.

CC battled back to within 21-19 when freshman guard Justin Berardino connected from behind the arc with 3:10 to go before the break, but Trinity scored the final six points of the half from the foul line to extend its advantage to eight points after 20 minutes.

Colorado College shot 23-percent from the field in the first half, making six of 26 shots. Fortunately, four of those buckets came from three-point range or the deficit would have been larger.

Chris Lesnansky scored the first four points of the second half to ignite a 9-1 run that tied the game at 28-28 with 15:50 to go. TU answered with 13 consecutive points to take their largest lead of the game on a pair of charity tosses by Hopson.

CC finished the season with a 16-11 record, its most victories since the 1992-93 squad finished with a 17-8 mark.
