Randolph Eliminates LC Men from ODAC Tournament 76-57

SALEM, VA – The Randolph College men's basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 76-57 Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament.

The game was tied at 15 all just six minutes in. The WildCats opened a small lead and extended it to 10 (38-28) by halftime. Randolph shot 58 percent from the floor (14-24) in the first 20 minutes and 46 percent (5-11) from beyond the three-point arc.  Senior center Austin Chillemi paced LC in the first half with 10 points and five rebounds.

Randolph led by double figures for much of the second half, but following a layup from junior guard Andrew Simmons, LC trailed 46-39 with 12:26 on the game clock. An 11-2 run from the WildCats extended the lead to 57-41 and the Hornets could get no closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Junior swingman Manny Hernandez led LC with 14 points. Freshman forward Alex Graves contributed nine points and five rebounds in just 14 minutes off the bench and senior forward Michael Wims had five points and collected a team-high eight rebounds.

Lynchburg finishes the season 19-8, the most wins for the program since the 1977-78 season.

ODAC Player of the Year Colton Hunt posted a game-high 22 points with seven rebounds for Randolph (21-5). Mike Ehilegbu had 19 points and three three-pointers and Chris Battaglie had 15 points.

Randolph advances to face top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday in the ODAC Semifinals at 6 p.m. The Marlins were 83-65 winners over Eastern Mennonite in Friday's early game.
