MENOMONIE (February 19, 2013) - With four minutes left to play, UW-Stout put together a 13-2 run to put away UW-Superior, 78-64, Tuesday night in a WIAC Championship Quarterfinal matchup at Johnson Fieldhouse.

With a lead of just three points, Stout's Josh Kosloske (Jr, Oakfield) scored six straight points to push the lead to nine before the Blue Devils used free throws to secure their trip to Whitewater on Thursday. Chris Hortman (Sr, Milwaukee), who led Stout with 16 points, hit on all four of his free throw attempts inside two minutes, while Jarvis Ragland (Jr, Milwaukee) connected on both of his attempts near the one-minute mark.

The 14-point final margin was little indication of how close the game was throughout. Superior (9-17) held a lead for a good chunk of the first half and Stout's (20-6) lead only hit double digits twice before the final two minutes of play.

Superior jumped out to an 11-7 lead, five and a half minutes into the game behind seven points from Jarrod Peterson, who tied Hortman with a game-high 21 points. Peterson scored all nine of his first-half points in the game's first seven minutes.

Stout had an answer for Peterson, but not necessarily by scoring. The Blue Devils shut down Peterson and the 'Jackets over the next eight minutes, forcing eight turnovers during the stretch. Stout scored 10 points during that span, compared to Superior's three, to take a 21-16 lead with 5:10 to play in the half. The Blue Devils took a 31-27 lead into the locker rooms.

After Stout extended their lead to eight just seconds into the second half, Superior roared back with an 8-0 run of their own to tie the game. Aaron Corry and Brendan Bauer each hit a three on back-to-back possessions to complete the run.

Over the next eight minutes, it was Hortman who provided Stout with the scoring necessary to build their first double-digit lead. Hortman hit a three at the 16-minute mark and followed it up with another, less than two minutes later. Then Hortman picked off a Brendan Bauer pass and got the crowd going with a slam dunk at the other end. As if that was not enough, Hortman hit a three and a jumper on back-to-back possessions near the nine-minute mark to give Stout a 10-point lead. Hortman scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, in which he shot 7-of-10 from the field.

Stout's lead was not safe, however, as a three-point play by Peterson kicked off an 18-11 run that brought the Yellowjackets within three points with four minutes to play.

That is when Stout's defense put their feet in the ground and went on a 10-0 run to put the game away for good, completing the three-game season sweep of Superior. Kosloske tallied seven points, three rebounds and a steal in the final four minutes of play to help put away the 'Jackets.

Alex Oman (Jr, Lake Elmo, Minn.) trailed Hortman and Peterson with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting. He also recorded a game-high three steals. Superior's Aaron Corry had the game's only double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, which led all players.

With the win, Stout improved to 4-0 all-time at home in WIAC Tournament games.

Stout will travel to #2-seeded UW-Whitewater, Thursday, Feb. 21, for a WIAC semi-final matchup. On the other side of the bracket, 1-seeded UW-Stevens Point will host 5 UW-Platteville, with the winners meeting Saturday, Feb. 23.
