GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Behind a game-high 22 points from Frank Champion and 20 points off the bench from Shawn Wilson, Gwynedd-Mercy outlasted Baptist Bible, 77-70, Monday night on Senior Night.

The Griffins move to 14-10 and 13-4 in conference play and move closer to locking up the #2 playoff seed and a first-round bye. The Defenders fall to 7-17, 5-12.

A tight contest, as both teams traded leads 16 times and led by no more than eight points. Gwynedd was able to grab a late lead and hit free throws down the stretch to cement the victory.

Abe Valentine was one of four Defenders in double figures, registering 17 points. Dan Dodd added 12, Kyle Pannebaker scored 11, and Luke Peterson chipped in 10.

Junior Justin Knight scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half. The 21 points from Wilson was a season high.

Wilson gave GM their largest lead in the first half, as his three-pointer capped a 9-0 run to take a 23-17 lead with six minutes before the half. Valentine would hit a three-pointer as part of a 7-0 BBC spurt to reclaim the lead. Gwynedd, who as a team shot 35% to the Defenders' 60%, would trail at the break, 34-31.

After Jordan Greve's trey knotted the game at 50-50, the Griffins thought a 13-5 run over a four-minute span would be enough to pull away for good. Baptist Bible fought back to get within 73-70 after a Valentine three-pointer with 30 seconds in the game.

The Griffins held a dominating 37-17 rebound edge as Champion, Knight, and Wilson each grabbed six to lead GM. Dodd pulled down five for BBC.

Champion, along with Brendan Stanton along with team manager Joe Wilde were honored in a pre-game ceremony by the team.

Gwynedd-Mercy closes out the regular season on Wednesday with a date at Neumann as part of a CSACS Doubleheader. The women tip it off at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.
