REDLANDS — All of the Occidental College men's basketball team's big guns were blazing.

Kris Montoya (Portland, Ore.) scored 25 points, Ryan Chong (San Diego) was lights-out from the three-point line — 7 for 13 — and Ty Cobb (Menlo Park) had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

But despite jumping out to a 54-43 halftime lead, the Tigers couldn't keep up the momentum in the second half of a 95-87 loss at first-place Redlands on Saturday night.

Chong led the charge with five threes in the first, Eric Leider (Las Vegas) scored eight of his 12 points, with two buckets from beyond the arc, and the Tigers committed just six turnovers in the period. Montoya scored 12 and Cobb added 10.

The Tigers held the lead held until Redlands' own sharp shooting caught up to the Tigers.

Alex Rudd, who finished with a team-high 20 points, hit a three, giving the Bulldogs a 68-67 lead with 11:21 left to play. Redlands shot 5 of 10 from deep in the second half after going just 2 for 10 in the first.

Chong quickly answered with a three and the Tigers didn't go away. Montoya hit one of his four threes to tie the game at 80 and David Yetenikyan (Glendale) put Oxy ahead with a layup, giving the Tigers an 82-81 lead with 4:17 left.

But the Bulldogs went on a 14-5 run to finish the game, led by Alex Rudd, who hit a three and six free throws during the stretch.

Oxy point guard Sam Stapleton (Los Angeles) dished out eight assists, Leider had five, Chong had four and the Tigers finished with a 20 assists to just 14 turnovers.

Chong finished with 23 points and David Yetenikyan added eight points and five rebounds off of the bench.

The Tigers finish the season with three games in six days, starting with a trip to Whittier on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
