Rams Roll Past Maritime After Strong Second Half

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State outscored Maritime 43-19 in the second half as they earned a 76-48 victory this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 14-5 overall and 10-2 in the Skyline, while the Privateers fell to 4-12, 3-8 in conference play.

In the first half, Maritime held a 17-16 lead at the 10:37 mark, before the Rams went on a 10-1 run to open up an eight point advantage. At the halftime break, Farmingdale State held a 33-29 lead, as senior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 14 points after shooting 6-of-7 from the field.

The Rams opened the second half on a 16-2 run to extend the lead to 49-31 with 13:50 remaining.

Leading 54-38 with 9:57 left in the game, back-to-back 3-pointers by Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) and Ryan Davis (Queens, N.Y.) gave the Farmingdale State a 60-38 advantage. The Rams held Maritime to only two field goals over the final five minutes as they picked up the 76-48 conference win.

Matthews led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting, had 11 rebounds and four assists. Davis scored 11 points and had five assists, while freshman guard Wilson Molina (Woodside, N.Y.) tallied six assists and eight boards. Junior guard Tim Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) pitched in with 11 points for the Rams.

The Privateers were led by senior guard Ron Bethea (Harlem, N.Y.) who recorded 20 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Farmingdale State next will travel to NYU-Poly on Thursday, January 31st for a Skyline game at 8:00 p.m.
