WASHINGTON – No. 10 CUA's offense was hitting on all cylinders on Wednesday evening in a 72-46 win over Goucher (5-12, 3-4) inside the DuFour Center.  The Cardinals (16-2, 6-1) handed out a season-high 25 assists on 29 made field goals and shot 53.7 percent from the floor to earn their fourth straight win.  All five CUA starters scored in double figures, and senior captain Shawn Holmes notched a double-double with 13 points and a career-best 11 assists.

Along with Holmes, Steve Limberiou (21), Chris Kearney (18), Nate Koenig (10) and Bryson Fonville (10) finished in double figures, with Limberiou also leading the way with nine rebounds.

The Cardinals defense forced the Gophers into 30.4 percent shooting from the floor, including a 4 of 21 showing from 3-point range (19 percent).

CUA controlled this one right from the start, jumping out to a 10-2 lead on Holmes' 3-pointer 3:19 into the game.

Koenig got inside for a layup with 12:42 to play before halftime to extend the lead to 16-5, and after Koenig hit a jumper a minute later, the lead was 18-7.

Limberiou's 3-pointer with 7:47 on the clock extended to a 16-point advantage, and a basket by Kearney three minutes later made it a 19-point bulge.

The lead reached 24 on another Limberiou trifecta, this one coming with 2:21 on the clock, and the margin remained at 24 as the teams retired for halftime.

Brian Morton's jumper with 17:59 on the clock in the second half brought Goucher to within 20, but Kearney answered down the other end to put the spread at 22.

A jumper by Holmes with 13:47 remaining gave CUA its largest lead up to that point at 26, and Fonville then made it a 28-point advantage on the Cardinals next possession.

Goucher was able to get to within 18 on Troy DeShields' basket with 6:31 remaining, but CUA closed the game out on a 10-2 run to set the final margin at 26.

The Cardinals finished with a 30-16 advantage in points in the paint, and they also converted 13 Gopher turnovers into 17 points.

Richard Harris led the visitors with 14 points, but he shot just 5 of 15 from the field.

CUA heads to New York for its next game, traveling to face Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
