RIVER FALLS (January 23, 2013) - Chris Hortman (Sr, Milwaukee) and Alex Oman (Jr, Lake Elmo, Minn) combined for 41 points and UW-Stout needed every one last of their points as the Blue Devils held off UW-River Falls in the final minutes, 77-75, at Karges Center Wednesday.

The Falcons (6-13, 1-9 WIAC) led for the first 13 minutes of the game, but once Stout (14-4, 7-3 WIAC) took the lead, 26-25, at 7:45 of the first half, they fell behind for only a brief period midway through the second half. With the score tied at 54, Hortman made the old-fashioned three-point play to give Stout a one point lead.

But the last place Falcons would not go away, pulling to within one point before Stout jumped out to an eight point lead at 9:28. Hortman had three three-point plays (basket and a free throw) in a three minute time span to give Stout the lead.

Stout kept the Falcons at a short arms length away, with a three, four, five, six or seven point lead until late in the game. Stout scored their final point of the game - an Oman free throw with 29 seconds left - to make it a 77-72 Stout lead.

Arik Smith hit a layup with seven seconds remaining to pull the Falcons to within 77-74. The Blue Devils missed a pair of free throws and the Falcons Ben Gresmer pulled down the rebound. The Falcons drew a foul, but could only convert the front end.

Hortman led all scorers with 22 points, while Oman finished with 19 points. The Blue Devils shot 53.6 percent from the field (30-56), 37.5 percent from the 3-point range (6-16) and 52.4 percent from the line (11-21). Erik Olson (Sr, Buffalo, Minn) had eight assists. Stout was outrebounded, 37-33.

The Falcons had three players in double digits, led by Zach Peterson with 21, Sam Meyer with 12 and David Stanley with 11. The Falcons shot 42.1 percent from the floor (24-57), 35 percent from 3-point range (7-20) and 76.9 percent from the line (20-26).

Stout steps out of conference action when they host Ashford University, Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils will host UW-Superior, Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
