Defense Leads Rams Past Yeshiva

Farmingdale State - 50, Yeshiva - 46


New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team allowed a season-low 46 points as the Rams defeated Yeshiva 50-46 last night in New York, N.Y.

Trailing 11-8, a 10-0 Farmingdale State (14-4, 8-1 Skyline) run capped off by five straight points from senior guard Christian Nunez (White Plains, N.Y.) put the Rams ahead 18-11 with 5:29 remaining in the first half. Farmingdale State took a 26-19 lead into the break as Nunez had a team-high eight points in the half.

The Rams held a seven point edge with under eight minutes to play, before senior forward Dovie Hoffman (Tarzana, Cal.) scored five straight Maccabees (7-7, 4-4) points to cut the deficit to 44-42. A P.J. Page (Copiague, N.Y.) dunk and Wilson Molina (Woodside, N.Y.) free-throw put Farmingdale State back on top by five, before junior guard Benjy Ritholtz (West Hempstead, N.Y.) hit all three free-throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt to pull Yeshiva within two, 47-45.

After the Maccabees trailed 47-46 with 32 seconds remaining, the Rams connected on 3-of-4 free-throws to earn a 50-46 conference victory.

Nunez tallied a team-leading 14 points and had five steals, while Page had 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

Yeshiva was led by Hoffman who had a game-high 21 points after shooting 7-for-10 from the field, including 4-for-4 from 3-point range.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Old Westbury for a Skyline game on Thursday, January 24th at 7:00 p.m.
