Brooklyn Falls at Richard Stockton

 Galloway, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup on Monday afternoon against the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College, 83-70, on the road in Galloway, NJ. With the loss, BC falls to 4-11 overall on the season, while Richard Stockton improves to 13-4 overall on the year.

BC was led once again by senior captain Kavon Baker's game-high 22 points, to go with four rebounds, three assists and three steals, while playing in all 40 minutes. Classmate Steven Grant chipped in with 16 points and five rebounds coming off the bench, while freshman Egzon Gjonbalaj finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Senior Jeffrey Noel added seven points and seven rebounds.

Richard Stockton had four starters in double figure scoring, led by Darnell McCargo's 19 points and nine rebounds. Nnamdi Usuwa added 18 points and eight rebounds, while Josh Blamon finished with 15 points. Kevin Johnson chipped in with 10 points and nine assists, while Rameel Johnson recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds coming off the bench. Sal Pistone also had nine rebounds, as the Ospreys won the battle of the glass out-rebounding the Bulldogs, 45-30, on the day.

Stockton took control of the game early on, as the Ospreys took a 15-point advantage, 19-4, at the 12:07 mark of the opening period. The Bulldogs would spend the rest of the half chipping away at its deficit and eventually get to within five points twice, before Richard Stockton headed into the locker room with a seven point halftime lead, 42-35. The Ospreys shot 51.5% (17-33) from the field in the first half, including going 4-for-10 from three and 4-for-7 from the line to build their intermission advantage.

Brooklyn opened the second half with a three from Grant to cut their deficit to four, 42-38; however, Richard Stockton would go on a 10-2 run to regain a double-digit lead, 52-40, at the 16:44 mark of the final half. The Bulldogs would once again chip away at its deficit and would again get it to within four, 59-55, with just 10:34 left in the game, after a three-point play from Noel. Noel was fouled on a fast-break dunk and converted the free-throw to complete the three-point play and make it a four point game.

However, the Ospreys would again retake momentum scoring the next eight points to go up by 12, 67-55, with 8:30 remaining. Richard Stockton would lead by double figures throughout much of the final eight minutes, as the home team would take the 83-70 final.

Along with holding the rebounding advantage, Richard Stockton also outscored Brooklyn 40-26 in the paint.

For the game, the Bulldogs shot 41.1% (23-56) from the field and 30.0% (6-20) from beyond the arc. BC also shot 69.2% (18-26) from the free throw line.

Richard Stockton shot 48.3% (29-60) from the field and 40.0% (6-15) from three. The Ospreys also shot 65.5% (19-29) from the charity stripe.

Brooklyn returns to action this Wednesday, January 23rd, as the Bulldogs will be on the road to take on borough rival St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) in another non-conference tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm. Live stats and video will also be available for the game.
