DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College went on a 7-0 run in the final minute to rally from a late deficit and defeat defending Freedom Conference champion Misericordia University, 60-57, in a Freedom Conference game.

The win lifted the host Aggies to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in the conference as they are tied with the Cougars (8-9, 4-2) and FDU-Florham for second place in the league standings. Delaware Valley will host FDU-Florham on Wednesday to conclude the first go-around of Freedom play.

The Aggies, who once led by six points in the second half, found themselves down four, 57-53, after Misericordia's Justin Grotevant hit a layup with exactly a minute remaining. However, Zach Sly came quickly down the court, sliced inside and scored while being fouled just six seconds later. He hit the free throw to complete the three-point play and make it a one-point contest.

Delaware Valley trapped the Cougars at midcourt and Sly poked the ball free. Daulton Derr scooped it up and hit a running layup with 38 ticks to go for 58-57 Aggie lead. Delaware Valley was called for a foul 10 seconds later and Matt Greene went to the foul line for a 1-in-1 situation. He missed the first attempt and Sly was there to grab the board.

The Aggies nearly turned the ball over near midcourt, but it deflected off a Misericordia player and went out of bounds. Jay Donovan was fouled on the inbounds pass with 13 seconds on the clock and the sophomore calmly hit both free throws for a 60-57 advantage.

The Cougars came up the court and Delaware Valley nearly came up with a steal. The ball batted around before Misericordia's Steve Ware came away with the loose ball and found a wide-open Greene. Greene had already hit a trio of 3-pointers on the afternoon, but his game-tying attempt at the buzzer hit a little long off the left of the rim and the Aggies came away with the victory.

The Cougars used a 17-7 run over the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 34-24 lead at the intermission. Eight different players hit the scoring column as the team shot 46.4 percent from the field compared to 31 percent shooting from Delaware Valley.

The two teams nearly had a complete reversal in the second half as the Aggies host 40.7 percent while Misericordia cooled off to 30 percent. The Aggies also got the job done at the foul line as they hit all 13 of their attempts in the final 20 minutes.

The Cougars hit the first basket of the second stanza, but they went the next nine minutes without a field goal and managed just one free throw. Meanwhile, Delaware Valley scored 19 points over that time for a 43-37 lead. The Aggies were still up six when the Cougars countered with a 10-0 to regain the lead and they held onto that advantage until Delaware Valley's last-minute rally.

Jeremy Beckett paced the Aggies with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Donovan added 13 points while Derr had nine points and five boards. Sly finished with seven points, four assists and one big steal at the end.

Greene netted 13 points and handed out four assists for Misericordia. Groteveant also hit double digits with 11 points.
