OSWEGO, N.Y. – Five players on the Oswego State men's basketball team (12-2, 5-2 SUNYAC) scored in double digits on Friday night to lead the Lakers to a 76-68 lead over Brockport (9-6, 4-4 SUNYAC), their second victory over the Golden Eagles this season.

Chris Gilkes (Sr., Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Lakers with 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting, nine of which came in the first half. Brockport's John Ivy was the game's high scorer, finishing with 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting.

Oswego State fell behind 6-4 early, but fired off a 10-0 run with five points each from Hayden Ward (Sr., Montauk, N.Y.) and Gilkes. The teams battled back and forth throughout the first half, with Ivy keeping the game close by scoring 12 first-half points.

Gilkes came up with a steal late in the half and charged down the floor, but his attempt was blocked by Brockport's Brandon Caruthers. Daniel Ross (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) swept in and cashed in on the putback to give the Lakers a 34-28 lead at the half.

Oswego State controlled the pace early in the second half, starting the stanza on a 17-8 run. Kyle Covley (Fr., Penfield, N.Y.) hit two threes and scored eight points during the stretch. Oswego State's run forced the Golden Eagles to run a press.

Sean Michele (Sr., East Rochester, N.Y.) consistently broke the press with effective ball-handling and smart passing. He finished the game with four assists and three turnovers while being the primary ball-handler in his 38 minutes of action.

The final margin of eight was the lowest the Golden Eagles could get the deficit down to, as the Lakers hit 24-of-35 free throws in the contest. Brockport hit only five of 25 tries from downtown in the contest.

Caruthers finished the game with 18 points in 27 minutes for Brockport. Ward, Michele, Ross and Covley joined Gilkes in double-digit scoring for Oswego State.

Oswego State travels to Geneseo tomorrow to face the Knights at 8 p.m.
