LA VERNE, CA -- A strong shooting effort aided the La Verne men's basketball team to a 90-66 win over Caltech on Wednesday evening.

The Leopard's connected on 34 of their 60 attempts (56.7 percent) en route to the win. The field goals made and percentage made marks were season highs for La Verne.

The home squad grabbed control of the game early. With the score knotted at 5-5 less than four minutes into the game, the Leopards scored 17 unanswered points to take a 22-5 lead with 10:20 left until halftime. Caltech got their deficit down to 12 points at 26-14 a few minutes later. However, La Verne finished the half on a 15-8 scoring spurt in taking a 41-22 lead into the locker room.

Caltech came out of the intermission by scoring nine of the second half's first 14 points to cut their deficit to 46-31 with 16:45 left. However, that 15-point spread was as close as they would get in the frame. La Verne shot 61.3 percent (19-of-31) in the final 20 minutes of action to erase any hopes of a Beavers comeback.

A big bright spot for the Beavers came in the form of 6-5 first-year Kc Emezie. In his first career start Emezie scored a game high 22 points on the strength of an 8-for-14 shooting effort. He also hit a personal best three three-pointers in 34 minutes to aid in his scoring charge.

Michael Edwards also tallied a double figure scoring effort with an 18-point evening.

La Verne's Jake Veith had a team best 18 points. Alex Wolpe chipped in a 14-point evening as the Leopards placed all 15 players who played in the scoring column.

The Beavers host defending SCIAC champion ClaremontMuddScripps on Saturday evening at  7 p.m.
