Goldson, Rubenstein Help Montclair State Snak Skid in 76-64 Win Over Kean

Montclair, NJ – Senior guard Ken Rubenstein (South Orange, NJ, Columbia) had 20 points while junior Ordel Goldson (Hackettstown, NJ, Warren Hills) added 16 as Montclair State snapped a four-game losing streak beating Kean, 76-64 in an NJAC contest at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday.

Sophomore forward Chris Torres (Oakland, NJ, Indian Hills) had nine points and five rebounds off the bench as the Red Hawks (5-10, 2-7 NJAC) won for the first time since December 19.

Junior forward Kyle Latorre (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ / Hasbrouck Heights) had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Kean (5-10, 4-5 NJAC), which dropped its third straight.

Montclair State trailed 32-25 at the break, but shot 63 percent of the final 20 minutes to turn that into a 12-point victory.

MSU trailed 49-42 with 10:45 to play, but scored 13 of the next 17 points to take the lead. Torres had the final five points as the Red Hawks went up 55-53 with 6:05 to go. Kean answered back as Anthony Gibson (Tinton Falls, NJ / Monmouth Regional) drained a three making its 56-55 however Rubenstein countered with a three putting Montclair back in front.

Another three by Gibson nudged Kean back into the lead at 59-58 with another three pointer but that would be the last lead for the Cougars as Montclair State reeled off 12 consecutive points to put the game away. Michael Spence (Irvington, NJ, Manchester Regional) converted a three-point play to spark the run while Torres added five giving MSU a 71-59 advantage with 59 42 seconds left.

James D'Angelo (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) had eight points and six assists for MSU, which was 15-of-24 in the second half, including 6-of-9 from behind the arc.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, January 16 as they host Rowan University at 8:00 pm. Kean is home to Richard Stockton at the same time.
