Jake Schwarz (Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) scored 20 of his 23 points in the first half and the Lakeland College men's basketball team stayed perfect in Northern Athletics Conference play with a 95-65 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College Thursday night at Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies never trailed and pulled away through the contest after a brief challenge early from the Crusaders, improving to 13-2 overall and 6-0 in the NAC. Lakeland is tied for the school's best start ever through 15 games, joining the 1974-75 team as the only two in school history to start 13-2.

Schwarz led four players in double figures for the Muskies, lifting the team in the first half by making eight of 13 shots, including three three-pointers. He helped Lakeland to a 45-29 halftime lead, with the Muskies finishing the half on a 17-4 run over the final 5:54.

Lakeland pulled away in the second half and put the game away with a 13-2 run midway through the half, capped by a layup by Brandon Hagenow (Fr.-Sussex, Wis.) to make it 78-51 with 8:35 to play. Both teams substituted freely at that point, and Schwarz finished with 23 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in just 24 minutes. He is now 62 points from the school career scoring record of 2,008 points held by John Koslowski (1980-84).

Four players finished in double figures for Lakeland, with Joey Burris (So.-Kiel, Wis.) adding 17 points, Justin Ward (Jr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) scoring 16 and James Oshkeshequoam (Jr.-Keshena, Wis.) chipping in 13. The Muskies shot 46.7% (35-of-75), including 10-of-24 from three-point range, and also hit 15 of 16 free throws (93.8%).

Tanner Moses led four players scoring in double figures for the Crusaders (2-9 overall, 0-6 NAC) with 17 points. Maranatha Baptist shot 40.3% (27-of-67) and committed 18 turnovers.

The Muskies are on the road for their next two games, starting Saturday when they face Concordia University Chicago at 4:15 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
