BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Roger Williams University held the University of New England scoreless for more than six minutes to begin the second period, erasing a six-point halftime deficit on the way to a 63-45 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon (Jan. 5) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Hawks improve to 5-6 overall and even their record in league play at 2-2 with the win. The Nor'easters slip back to 1-9 on the year (0-3 CCC).

Sophomore Joseph Henry (Medway, Mass.) led all scorers with 15 points -- including 12 in the final 20 minutes -- and picked up three steals in the contest. Senior James LeCardi (Fair Haven, N.J.) chipped in with 11 points and four steals, while classmate Mike Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) came off the Hawks' bench to register 12 points and a team-high six rebounds. Igoe made all six of his field goals tries, and, as a team, RWU connected at a 49-percent clip (24-for-49) from the floor on the day.

Big Blue junior Charles Fenner III (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the hosts with 11 points and four steals. Sophomore Jake Abel (Fairfield, Calif.) added eight points, while junior Joshua Butler (Nantucket, Mass.) and first-year Jesse Dykstra (Douglas, Mass.) combined for 13 points and 20 boards. Butler also had three rejections in the game, and the Nor'easters out-rebounded their opponent by a 38-31 margin.

Trailing 31-25 at the break, the Hawks scored the first 10 points of the frame over 5:51 to assume a lead they would not relinquish. With a few minutes left on the clock, Roger Williams had methodically upped the difference to 19 (57-38).

The advantage changed hands seven times in the opening half, but UNE separated itself over the closing eight minutes of the stanza with an 15-3 run. Fenner III had six points in the stretch. The Nor'easters converted 39 percent of their shots in the initial 20 minutes, as opposed to 15 percent after intermission.

Both sides return to action on Tuesday. The Hawks are set to entertain Curry College (8 p.m.), and UNE will be heading to Gordon College (7:30 p.m.).
