LANCASTER, Pa. – Junior Tim Harwood scored a game-high 23 points on 6-for-10 shooting to lead three Sea Gulls in double figures as the Salisbury University men's basketball team defeated the State University of New York Plattsburgh, 87-69, to take third place in Franklin & Marshall College's Sponaugle New Years Tournament on Thursday.

Harwood added five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block while seniors Trent Epps and Travon Vann chipped in with 17 and 14 points, respectively, as Salisbury (10-4) snapped a three-game losing streak. Epps was 6-for-8 from the floor with seven rebounds and Vann finished with four boards, three steals and two assists.

Senior Elijah Gore gave Salisbury an 11-10 lead with a jumper at the 13:44 mark of the first half, before freshman Kyle Savercool hit a three-pointer from Chris Viqueira for a 14-10 advantage with 12 minutes left.

Plattsburgh scored the next six points to take the lead, 16-14, on four points from Ezra Hodgson and a pair free throws by Edward Correa. Vann followed with a three-point play, drawing contact from Correa, to give the Sea Gulls the lead, 17-16, with 9:15 remaining.

Down one with 8:24 before halftime, Salisbury used an 8-2 spurt, keyed by five points from Epps, to claim a 27-22 edge and did not look back. SU closed with a 17-8 run to take a 44-31 lead into the locker room.

Vann hit two shots from the free-throw line three minutes into the second half, giving SU its first 20-point lead of the night at 56-36 and the lead was extended to 63-38 at the 14:42 mark. Harwood took a pass from Viqueira and drained one of his four three-pointers on the play.

Kalik Parker hit a three-pointer of his own with 9:16 left to move the lead back under 20 at 69-50 but Salisbury was too much for the Cardinals (7-4).

The Sea Gulls were one shy of tying their season-high point total, which was set at Gallaudet University on Nov. 23. SU shot 55.3 percent (26-for-47) from the field against Plattsburgh and 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from three-point range. Salisbury also outrebounded the Cardinals, 36-24.

Jordan Moody led the Cardinals with 11 points and four steals. John Perez and Parker each had 10 points.

Salisbury returns to Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at York (Pa.) College at 8 p.m.
