Men's Basketball Powers Past Gallaudet

Williamsport, Pa.— The John Jay men's basketball team picked up its sixth win of the year as the Bloodhounds defeated Gallaudet University 74-65 in the opening round of the Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament at Lycoming College.
 
The win improves John Jay to 6-2 this season, while Gallaudet falls to 4-7 this season. With the win the Bloodhounds advance into the championship round and will play Lycoming at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
 
In Saturday's win, John Jay got another outstanding performance by Jamar Harry who had 21 points and eight rebounds, while Isaiah Holman added 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Darryl Dennis also had a nice game of 12 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Michael Howard provided a spark off the bench and had 19 points and five rebounds.
 
Gallaudet was led by Layton Seeber with 20 points and seven assists.
 
John Jay dominated the glass, outrebounding the Bisons 42-30, including 16-5 on the offensive side. The Bloodhounds held a 16-0 advantage on second chance points, and the Bloodhounds dominated inside, outscoring Gallaudet 30-10 on points in the paint.
 
John Jay led practically the entire game. Gallaudet's lone lead was a 4-2 advantage early on. The Bloodhounds then led for the rest of the first half after a three point field goal by Dennis with 14:49 to go in the first to break a 7-7 tie.
 
The Bloodhounds led by as much as 11 in the first stanza, and John Jay led by five at halftime as the Bloodhounds were up 40-35.
 
The Bisons stuck around for a while in the second half and tied the score 42-42 with 16:49 to go. But John Jay used an 11-0 run to reestablish itself and lead the rest of the way. Gallaudet pulled to within seven but never closer as John Jay picked up the win.
