WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Travon Vann led all scorers with 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting but The College of William & Mary was too much for the Salisbury University men's basketball team in a 82-49 win at Kaplan Arena on Friday.

Classmate Trent Epps added 15 points and six rebounds, while junior Tim Harwood chipped in with 10 points, two rebounds and two assists. Vann had eight rebounds.

William and Mary (7-3) opened the game on a 7-0 run before Harwood and Vann hit a three-pointer and a layup, respectively, to cut it to a 7-5 game at the 17:27 mark. Salisbury (9-3) stayed within shouting distance when Epps tallied a layup to shave it to a 16-10 deficit with 13:06 to play, prior to the Tribe pulling away. William and Mary rallied with an 11-2 spurt to take a 27-12 advantage on a Kyle Gaillard layup with 6:45 remaining.

The Tribe's Julian Boatner knocked down a three-pointer inside the final minute of the first half for a 43-21 lead at the half.

The Sea Gulls began the second half with a 5-2 stretch with a three-point play and layup by Vann to cut the Tribe lead to 45-27 with 18:53 left. Harwood then hit another three to move Salisbury within 16 at 50-34 with 16:19 to go; it was the closest SU got the rest of the game.

William and Mary scored the next eight points on two threes by Marcus Thornton and a dunk by Tim Rusthoven with just under 10 minutes left, making it 58-34. The Tribe held the Gulls to 15 points the rest of the way.

William and Mary was 55 percent from the field, connecting on 21-of-56 shots, while SU shot 35 percent on 20-of-56 from the floor.

Gaillard and Thornton each recorded 15 points and Matt Rum had 12 points and a game-high nine boards.

The Tribe outrebounded Salisbury, 42-25, and turned 15 SU turnovers into 21 points.

Salisbury is off until Jan. 2 when it travels to Lancaster, Pa., for the Sponaugle New Year Tournament, hosted by Franklin & Marshall College. The Sea Gulls will face Eastern Connecticut State University in the opening round at 6 p.m.
