Kings Point, NY – The USMMA men's basketball team exploded for a season 84 points as 12 Mariners hit at least one field goal in an 84-43 triumph over Vaughn Sunday afternoon inside O'Hara Hall.  Merchant Marine dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Warriors, 50-35, while also shooting a sizzling 47.7% from the field.  Andrew Williams (Lantana, TX) was the only Mariner to reach double figures as the freshman posted 14 points and five rebounds.

Merchant Marine (5-3) jumped out to an early 15-4 advantage as the Warriors committed ten of their 27 total turnovers in the opening 8:30 of the game.  The Mariners blew it open with a 14-0 run to make it a 25-4 affair with 7:38 remaining in the first half.  Zach Karczewski (Austin, TX) supplied eight points during the spurt while Williams chipped in the remaining six.

Vaughn (4-5) was held to just 24.0% from the floor in the opening 20 minutes while turning the ball over 17 times in the first period.  The Warriors also struggled from the free throw line, hitting just 10-of-27 (37.0%), from the charity stripe on the afternoon.  Jared Ndiba paced the Vaughn attack with 14 points and Mahdi Macbahi led the visitors with 11 rebounds.

George Hatzioannides (Oakland Gardens, NY) got the first start of his collegiate career and filled his stat line with nine points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block.  Point guard Frankie Wiseley (Emmaus, PA) dished out seven assists and hauled in two rebounds in the contest. 

Freshman Kenneth Pressey (Yorktown, VA) got into his first game of the season and made the most of his minutes.  The 6-7 forward dropped in nine points and grabbed four rebounds against the Warriors.  David Gregory (Murrysville, PA) also came off the bench and added five points, including a perfect 4-of-4 at the free throw line.

USMMA controlled the paint, totaling 38 points in the lane compared to just ten for the Warriors.  The Mariners also took advantage of Vaughn's turnovers, posting 30 points off of the visitors' miscues.  Merchant Marine spread out the minutes evenly with no one playing more than 18 minutes as the Mariners cruised throughout the second half, ending in an 84-43 victory.

Merchant Marine returns to action Tuesday night for a non-conference clash against Dickinson.  Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
