Ortega Pulls Down 12 Offensive Boards but Beavers Fall to Bearcats

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Jordan Ortega seemed to be around the basket every time a shot would go up. Unfortunately for the sophomore and the Beavers, the City College of New York struggled shooting the ball all evening as the Bearcats of Baruch College (5-2, 2-1 CUNYAC) defeated the Beavers (4-5, 0-3 CUNYAC), 61-49, on Saturday evening at the ARC Arena on the campus of Baruch College.

Ortega was a force on the offensive glass as 12 of his career-high 13 rebounds led to second chance opportunities for the Beavers. The sophomore forward added six points, two blocks, one assist and one steal in the CUNYAC matchup. Junior Nathan Lopez led all CCNY players with nine points.

In perhaps a surprise to many, head coach Tom Green started five guards; seniors Paul Dail and Israel Vickers and juniors Timothy DeSilva, Phyo Thu and Lopez.

Anthony Lewis and Terence Johnston added eight points and seven points, respectively.

The Beavers return to action on Tuesday in the second game of a doubleheader against the College of Staten Island Dolphins.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM. Remember that fans can still register for three-on-three basketball on Staff/Faculty Appreciation Day, by clicking here.
