GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy defeated Neumann, 64-59, Wednesday night to win their second straight CSAC game in a row.  Senior Frank Champion led the Griffins with 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

The Griffins (3-3, 2-0 CSAC) started the game with an early 8-0 run over a six-minute span capped off by a Champion layup.  The Knights hung around and would eventually take a 12-10 lead when Eric Bowman completed a three-point play.  Neumann (2-4, 1-1 CSAC) would extend their lead to as much as eight points but the Griffins would cut into the lead with a pair of Champion free throws at the end of the first half to trail only by three (26-23) into the break.

Neumann (2-4, 1-1 CSAC) looked to pull away in beginning stages of the second half, securing a 42-36 lead with 10:33 remaining. Over the next three minutes, the Griffins used a 13-0 run to take a 49-42 lead. Freshman Brian Hennessey started the run knocking down a three pointer followed by a tough layup from sophomore Justin Knight. Senior Brendan Stanton added a three ball of his own. Knight added a free throw and freshman Tyler Barnes chipped in a layup off of an offensive rebound.  Hennessey closed out the run with a layup with 7:21 left in the game. Gwynedd stretched the lead to ten 54-44 with a Champion free throw.

Neumann would get as close as four points with 1:20 left but the Griffins were able to lock down the 64-59 victory.

Gwynedd shot 36.1% (22-of-61) from the floor for the game but the second half saw GM shoot at 43% clip. Stanton and freshman Darnell Artis each scored ten points for the Griffins. Hennessey finished with nine points all in the second half off the bench.

Neumann shot 40.4% (21-of-52) James Robertson scored 17 points to lead the Knights and Mel Weldon added 11.

The Griffins controlled the rebounding margin outrebounding Neumann, 44-28. Freshman Larry Jones III had seven while Knight grabbed six.
