Montclair, NJ – Senior forward Elgin Brown (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Ramapo College to an 84-61 victory over Montclair State University In a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Wednesday evening at the Panzer Athletic Center.

Brown, who scored 16 of his points in the first half, got help from the senior backcourt combination of Will Sanborn (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank regional) and Anthony LoRusso (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep), who scored 17 points apiece as Ramapo remained undefeated at 5-0 on the season and 4-0 in the NJAC.

Ramapo jumped out to a 7-1 start, but MSU came back to tie the game at 10-10 at the 15:06 mark of the first half. Neither team led by more than three points as the score was tied another five times, the last at 21-21 with 9:41 to go in the opening stanza.  The Roadrunners then took control, outscoring the Red Hawks 25-10 the rest of the half to take a comfortable 46-31 advantage at halftime.

Montclair State, which dropped its third straight game in falling to 2-5 (0-4 NJAC) saw its scoring woes continue at the start of the second half as the Red Hawks could only muster just two field goals and five points as Ramapo, which dominated the backboards by outrebounding MSU 52-34 in the game, built a commanding 29-point bulge at 65-36 with 10:31 to play.

But Montclair State would rally, outscoring Ramapo 25-8 to cut the deficit to just 12 points at 73-61 with just 3:21 remaining. Leading the comeback was sophomore guard James D'Angelo (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central). D'Angelo, who had a game-high seven assists, scored nine of his 11 points, in the run.

Freshman forward Kevin McGorry (Rutherford, NJ, Rutherford), who had 10 points and nine rebounds, missed an opportunity for the Red Hawks, who were just 12-22 from the foul line, to draw closer by missing a pair of free throws with 2:51 left.

Ramapo then play keep-away down the stretch, scoring the final 11 points of the game, including eight straight from the foul line, to close out the contest.

John Yates (Bear, DE, Pencader Charter) had 14 points to lead Montclair State.

The Red Hawks are now off until Wednesday, December 12 when they host New Jersey City University at 8:00 pm in the Panzer Athletic Center. Ramapo is home on Saturday, December 8 facing The College of New Jersey at 3:00 pm.
