SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England University freshman forward Zack Askew (Middletown, Conn./ Vinal Technical High School) has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week in men's basketball, it was announced on Monday. The Golden Bears finished the week with a 2-0 CCC record, which is their best start in conference play since the 2006-07 season.

For the period ending Sunday, Askew averaged eight points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game last week. In a 68-67 victory over Gordon on Wednesday, he recorded eight points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Askew then netted eight points, gathered a career-best 11 rebounds and blocked three shots in the Golden Bears' 88-85 victory over Nichols on Saturday.

Currently, Askew is averaging 5.4 points and a second-team-leading 6.4 rebounds while starting in all five games so far this season.
