THOUSAND OAKS, CA – During Caltech's 71-51 men's basketball loss at Cal Lutheran on Saturday evening, Michael Edwards became the school's career scoring leader.

The senior passed George Papa's career total of 1297 points with a 12-point effort against the Kingsmen. Edwards now has 1299 career points during his tenure in a Beaver uniform. The native of Canyon Country, CA, now holds six individual school records. Papa graduated from Caltech in 1994.

Saturday night's contest was a nip-and-tuck affair in the early going with four lead changes and two ties in the first 11-plus minutes. Cal Lutheran grabbed control of the contest with 8:55 left in the stanza. With home team clinging to a 13-12 lead, the Kingsmen scored 22 of the next 27 points to take a 35-17 advantage with just under three minutes left in the half.

Caltech chipped away at their 18-point deficit and got within 37-23 after a Collin Murphy foul shot with 12 ticks left in the frame. However, Cal Lutheran's Martin Flowers hit a three-pointer at the halftime horn to give the home team a 40-23 lead at intermission.

Cal Lutheran continued to ride that shots momentum during the early minutes of the second half. The Kingsmen built their lead to 48-25 with 16:38 left in the contest. However, Caltech made a flurry of baskets and played solid defense during a five minutes stretch to get their deficit down to 51-35 after an Edwards three-pointer with 11:46 remaining.

Unfortunately for Caltech the 16-point spread was as close as they would get down the stretch. Cal Lutheran limited the Beavers to two made field goals the rest of the game.

Cal Lutheran's Michael Palmer went 6-for-8 from the field en route to leading all scorers with a 16-point effort.

The Beavers will continue their travels with a non-conference tilt on Tuesday evening against The Master's College. The contest is set for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off in Santa Clarita.
