STEVENSON, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team (4-1, 1-0 Commonwealth) broke open a one-point game with a 25-3 run over the first eight minutes of the second half en route to an 80-66 Commonwealth Conference triumph over the Stevenson University Mustangs (3-1, 0-1 Commonwealth) Wednesday evening.

Cameron Cook led all scorers with 24 points, including four three-pointers, while Justin Stone notched his eighth career double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in addition to dishing six assists. Hood, which registered its first Commonwealth Conference win in men's basketball, handed Stevenson its first setback of the 2012-13 season and earned its fifth straight win in the series with the Mustangs.

Hood's sharp shooters connected on eight of their first nine shots from the field and quickly built an eight-point lead just 5:08 into the contest. However, SU's Andrew Bishop capped an 11-2 Mustang run with a layup that gave Stevenson its first lead of the game, 21-20, at the 11:41 mark. Neither team led by more than three the rest of the period but a putback by Stone in the closing seconds gave Hood a 35-34 edge at intermission.

Cook tallied 11 points in Hood's decisive run at the start of the second stanza and the Blazers never looked back, leading by as many as 24 on the night.

Hood shot 54.7 percent from the field in the game and outrebounded the Mustangs, 41-32. Reggie Daniels finished with a career-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and blocked two shots while Trey Quinn contributed a season-high 15 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Stevenson was led by Alfonzo Hawkins who had 17 points while Brett Burrier and Stefon McCray chipped in 11 apiece.

Hood looks to extend its win streak to five in a row Saturday when the Blazers travel to Williamsport, Pa., to take on the Lycoming College Warriors in a Commonwealth Conference matchup at 3 p.m.
