Late First Half Run Sinks Britons

TIFFIN, Ohio – Heidelberg University closed the first half on a 14-3 run to send Albion College to a 66-58 loss in non-league men's basketball action.

Albion erased an early 14-7 deficit with a 7-0 rally as Zach Hurth and Eric Evans scored baskets and Mike Smith produced an old-fashioned three-point play. Neither team led by more than three for the next five minutes and Albion led 23-22 when Lawrence Ridgell scored off an offensive rebound.

A couple of turnovers and two missed shots contributed to Albion's three-minute scoring drought as Heidelberg pulled away for a 32-23 lead. Cody Blizzard started the Heidelberg rally with two layups and Nate Davis tacked on a jumper and a pair of free throws.

Heidelberg led by as many as 15 in the second half. The Britons whittled the margin to six, 55-49, when Alex Harville knocked down a jumper with six minutes left.

Ridgell finished with 20 points, a season-high. Evans reached double figures for the first time in his collegiate career with 10.

Davis led Heidelberg with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Albion returns home Saturday to challenge Elmhurst (Ill.) College.
