BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille men's basketball team grabbed a big lead early but were unable to stop a second half surge by Buffalo State as the Bengals outscored the Mavs by (18) in the second half en route to a (98-84) victory over Medaille.

The Mavs were seemingly in control when they jumped out to a (16-2) lead (6:05) into the game and then stretched that to a (19-4) advantage with (12:05) to play in the opening half.  The Mavs would keep the Bengals at bay for much of the first half until the home team made a late run and closed within four (45-41) at the break.

The second half belonged to Buffalo State as they capitalized on Maverick turnovers in a foul plagued game.  The Mavs committed (24) turnovers which led to (26) points on the other end of the floor.  The Mavs did some damage themselves defensively as they forced the Bengals into (20) turnovers of their own and scored (21) points off those miscues.

The Mavs were unable to take advantage of a career best scoring performance by sophomore Jammal Coleman as he poured in a game high (25) points on (7 of 10) shooting from the floor which included knocking down all three of his attempts from beyond the arc and going (8 of 11) from the charity stripe.

Eleven different Medaille players found their way into the scoring ledger with Tyler Stevens being the only other Maverick to reach double figures as he finished with (11) points while draining a trio of three pointers along the way.  Senior Josh Laureano dished out a game best six assists while leading the Mavs with five rebounds as well.

The Mavs continued to shoot the ball well as they connected on (47.1%) of their shots from the floor while knocking down (50.0%) of their three point attempts (11 for 22).  However, Buffalo State was red hot in the second half as they shot (61.3%) from the floor, finishing the day at (53.7%).  The Bengals would also win the battle of the glass, outrebounding Medaille (38-28).

The loss is the first of the season for Medaille as they drop to (3-1) overall.  They will look to rebound when they open up conference play on the road Saturday (12/1) when they face Mt. Aloysius College at 3:00pm in Cresson, PA as they look to defend their conference crown from last season.
