COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Hayden Ward (Sr., Montauk, N.Y.) led the Oswego State men's basketball team (3-0) in scoring with 24 points, as the Lakers grabbed the lead early in the second half in an 80-70 win over host Cobleskill (1-5) on Tuesday night. The win was the 100th in the career of head coach Jason Leone, who moved to Oswego State from Keystone last season.

Chris Gilkes (Sr., Syracuse, N.Y.) tacked on 16 points to keep the Lakers unbeaten in the 2012-13 season. Sean Michele (Sr., East Rochester, N.Y.) also chipped in; scoring 15 points while also grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five assists.

For the third time this season the Lakers hit the 80-point mark, shooting 55.6 percent from the field while causing 19 turnovers. After the Lakers shot ahead by 10 halfway through the first half, the Tigers went on a 21-8 run to close the first half with a 37-34 lead.

Early in the second half, Michele hit one of his two three-pointers of the game to reclaim the led for Oswego State. However, Cobleskill's Jack Jeffries converted on a three-point play to knot up the score.

Ward then took over the game, scoring eight of his team-high 24 points on a 23-9 run to put the Lakers up by 14. The Lakers recorded 18 assists on 30 made baskets, continuing their unselfish play from their Max Ziel Tournament Title run.

Alexis Nunez and Kareem Bernard led the Tigers with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Cobleskill shot a potent 61 percent from the field, but only took 46 shots due to turnover problems.

Oswego State returns to Max Ziel Gymnasium to host Whiteout Weekend, as the Lakers play their first two conference games against Plattsburgh and Potsdam on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
