HONOLULU, Hawaii – A 25-point performance off the bench by Danny Brakebush (Fr., Portland, Ore.) led a torrid Pacific shooting performance Saturday, leading the Boxers to a 73-70 victory in men's basketball action in the final game of the Surf's Up Classic at Kalani High School.

Brakebush led all scorers as he connected on 9 of 12 from the field, 3 of 4 from three-point range and 4 of 6 from the free throw line in 21 minutes of action.  He scored 14 of his points in the first half.  Brakebush paced a performance the saw the Boxers (3-1) connect on 55.1 percent from the field (27-49) and 63 percent (17-27) in the opening 20 minutes.

Andrew Beatty (Sr., Lynnwood, Wash.) added 13 points to go along with six assists while Dustin Bowser (Sr., Bellingham, Wash.) scored 11.  Colin Wester (Sr., Sherwood, Ore.) pulled down a game-high eight rebounds as Pacific outrebounded Cal Lutheran 34-25.

Martin Flowers led four Kingsmen in double figures with 17 points, which included 9 of 11 from the free throw line.  Dan Wade added 13 points, Guy Lynott scored 12 and Jayvaughn Nettles connected for 10.  Cal Lutheran (1-3) shot 34.1 percent from the field for the contest (14-41), but kept the game close by making 39 of 50 from the free throw line, including 25 of 29 in the second half.

Pacific pulled away from a nip-and-tuck first seven minutes with a 12-3 run that started on Charles Mosley's (Sr., Hillsboro, Ore.) jumper at the 13:03 mark and ended on his short-range bucket with 9:07 left.  The Kingsmen slowly whittled away at the lead, coming within four points on Lynoot's three-pointer with 4:23 to go.

Beatty turned the tide on the next possession when his basket opened up an 8-2 run that gave the Boxers a 10-point lead on a Brakebush lay-in.  The advantage held as the Boxers went into halftime with a 40-30 lead.

Pacific built its largest lead early in the second half, going up 42-30 on a pair of Bowser free throws 26 seconds into the stanza.  The Kingsmen used their free throw acumen to keep the game close, coming within three points on a pair of Flowers' charity shots with 10:57 left and tying the contest 58-58 on a pair of Michael Palmer free throws.

The Boxers went right back on the offensive, building a seven-point lead, 67-60, on Bowser's lay-in at the 2:12 mark.  Two free throws by Beatty with 33 seconds left maintained the seven-point edge, but Beatty was then called for an intentional foul on the other end to put Cal Lutheran back at the line.  Wade made both free throws, then made a three-pointer just eight seconds later to bring the Kingsmen to within 70-68.

Wester made one of two free throws on the Boxers' next possession before Wade stepped to the line again to make both free throws with five seconds left.  The Kingsmen immediately fouled Brakebush on the in-bound pass and he proceeded to make the winning free throws for the Boxers.  Cal Lutheran was unable to get off another attempt.

Pacific returns home this week for their only home game before Christmas break, hosting Simpson (Calif.) on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
