BOSTON -- Host University of Massachusetts Boston limited the University of New England to 19 percent shooting while forcing 24 turnovers for a 72-30 men's basketball victory in an opening-round game of the 28th Annual Harbor Invitational played Friday (Nov. 23) evening at the Clark Athletic Center.

The Beacons (2-2) advance to the final of their own event and will face either Trinity College (Conn.) or the College of St. Joseph (Vt.). UNE (0-4) will face the loser of Friday's other contest. Saturday's consolation game is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Mike Mitchell, Jr. scored a game-high 14 points to pace UMass Boston. Brian Clarke added 12 points and Jahleel Moise came off the bench to score 10 in 16 minutes of playing time. Clarke was 6-for-8 from the floor.

Junior Charles Fenner III was the lone UNE player in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore Conner Michalak tallied eight points on a 3-of-4 effort from the floor. First-year Jesse Dykstra had four rebounds and four steals.

The Beacons registered the first seven points of the contest and never looked back. UMass Boston shot 50 percent (14 of 28) from the floor compared to 18 percent (5 of 28) for UNE in building a 38-14 halftime advantage.

The second half was much of the same, as the Beacons had 11 different players score after halftime. UNE tallied its last basket with 4:01 remaining.
