Medaille Men Hold Off La Roche for 11th Straight Win

BUFFALO, NY- The Medaille men's basketball team hosted the La Roche Redhawks Saturday afternoon in the Sullivan Center. In a thrilling AMCC contest, the Mavericks defeated the Redhawks (77-70). After building a strong 35-25 lead heading into halftime, the game would get much closer in the second half, before the Mavericks would close out the game in the final minutes.

Before the game, four Maverick starters were honored for Senior Night in a pre game celebration. After the game, the Mavericks held another celebration after defeating the Redhawks and avenging a (70-59) defeat earlier in the season.

Leading the Mavericks was guard Anthony Battaglia with (18) points and guard Josh Laureano who chipped in (15) points along with five rebounds. Also contributing for the Mavericks was guard Angel Flores who added (11) points of his own. 

In a game that produced 37 total fouls, the free throw line may have been the difference in the game. Overall, the Mavericks went 12-18 (66.7%) from the line while the Redhawks only had 8 attempts from the free throw line.

In addition, the Mavericks really improved their three point shooting throughout the game. In the first half, the Mavericks were 5-19 (26.3%)  from the three point line. In the second half, the Mavericks improved to 4-9 (44.%) from the three point line including two three pointers with under three minutes to go to ice the game.

The Mavs finish the regular season with a (23-2) overall record and a (17-1) mark in AMCC play.  The Mavs will now wait until Friday (2/24) to host the semifinals of the AMCC Tournament against the winner of one of the first round games. The first game on Friday will be held at 5:30 p.m. followed by the second semifinal game at 8:00 p.m.
