Titans Fall in Season Finale; Will Host PAC Tournament "Play-In" on Monday

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - In a battle for the sixth seed of the 2011-12 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament, the Westminster College men's basketball team lost to Geneva 100-85.  The Titans finished the regular season 6-19 overall and 5-12 in the PAC, while the Golden Tornadoes finished at 5-11 and 6-19.

Sophomore Anthony Thomas (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) led the Titans with a career-high 27 points (11-19), including four three-pointers. Thomas also led on the boards with six rebounds.  Also reaching a career milestone was junior Ron Martino (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) with 19 points off 7-for-14 shooting.

The first half included five ties with Westminster's latest lead occurring four minutes after the game's start (6-4).

The Golden Tornadoes held a 42-36 halftime lead. A layup from senior Max Spinner (Boca Raton, FL / Boca Raton) cut Geneva's lead to 60-52, however the Golden Tornadoes recovered and led in double digits for the duration of the contest.

For the game, Geneva shot 65.5% (38-for-58), while the Titans were 49.2% (32-for-65). Both teams converted on eight three-pointers.

Dave Phillips led Geneva with a game-high 31 points, followed by Lambros Svignos with 26.

Also scoring in double digits for Westminster were juniors Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) and Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Westminster will host Waynesburg in the PAC Tournament "play-in" game next Monday night in Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The winner will travel to the number one seed Bethany on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
