YORK, Pa. - Paul Reynolds showed why he is arguably the best player in the conference as he led the Wesley College men's basketball team to a must-have 68-65 victory over Capital Athletic Conference rival York College on Wednesday night at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.  The Wolverines are now 11-13 while the Spartans fall to 14-10 and the teams have identical 9-6 records in the CAC.

A native of Smyrna, Del., Reynolds scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.  It was his third double-double in the last four games.

The six-foot-four, 245 pound forward did have help as both Rasheed Carter and Devon Davidson had career nights with 11 and 10 points, respectively.  Freshman Nick Guidry also scored ten points off the bench which was one off his season-high.

The Wolverines were outshot 43.5% to 39.6% but Wesley grabbed 16 offensive rebounds,  including four by Reynolds, and turned that into 12 second-chance points.  The Navy & White also got 30 points from its bench

With just 1:44 remaining in the first half, Wesley trailed 33-23 but Davidson scored six points as the Wolverines went on an 8-2 run to end the period, making the halftime deficit 35-31 in favor of York.

A layup by Reynolds at the 12:44 mark in the second half tied the score at 42 and the teams would trade leads until Guidry hit a three with 3:09 remaining to give Wesley a 59-56 lead. With York unable to cut into the lead, Reynolds hit a pair of free throws with 1:44 left to extend the lead to 61-56.

An uncontested layup by York with 28 seconds remaining made it a single-possession game but JJ Bryant (seven points), a Dover High product, hit one of two free throws with 17 seconds remaining to make the score 62-58.  

Once again, the Spartans went coast to coast for a layup and fouled Guidry immediately on the inbounds with eight seconds left.  The native of New Orleans, La., hit the first three throw to give the Wolverines a 63-60 lead but Reynolds pulled down a huge offensive rebound and hit both free throws to extend the lead back to 65-60 with six seconds remaining.

The Wolverines gave York another chance as they fouled the Spartans prior to the ensuing inbounds pass and YCP hit both charity shots to make it once again a three-point game.  Reynolds once again came through by sinking both free throws with six seconds left by York came right back with a trey, cutting the lead to 67-65 with just two seconds left.

Bryant was fouled immediately and made one of two free throws to establish the final score of 68-65.

Wesley closes out the 2011-12 season on Saturday, February 18, when it hosts Mary Washington at 4 pm. The matchup with the Eagles will mark the final regular season home game for seniors Chris Douglas, Sean McAndrew and Darrell Johnson.
