Will DeBerg had 17 points and the host Tommies (17-6 overall, 14-4 MIAC) shot 56 percent from the floor with only eight turnovers in Monday night's 68-57 win over Carleton (9-14, 6-12) in MIAC men's basketball at Schoenecker Arena.

Scott Theisen sank five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 27 points for the Knights. Tom Sawatzke added 15 points.

UST closed the first half on a 9-0 run and led 39-26 at halftime. The Knights never got closer than 11 in the second half.

Zach Riedeman (10 points) and Marcus Alipate (nine) helped St. Thomas post a 25-5 advantage in bench points.

The Tommies remain one game behind MIAC leader Gustavus, a road winner Monday night at St. John's. UST needs one win in its last two games -- Wednesday at Bethel and Saturday at home vs. St. Mary's -- to claim a first-round playoff bye and top-two seed.
