WAUKESHA, Wis. – Wisconsin Lutheran College senior Alex Merbach (Kaukauna, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) has been named the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the events of February 6-12, the conference office announced Monday.

Merbach averaged 29.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game last week for the Warriors (5-18, 4-11 NAC), who lost two road games by a combined six points.

The senior forward became the 18th player in program history to score at least 1,000 career points after he poured in a career-high 39 points on Wednesday against Marian. The 39-point performance ranks fourth in program history for most points scored in a single game.

Merbach followed his career-high performance with a game-high 19 points on Saturday at Edgewood.

For the week, Merbach shot 63 percent (22-for-35) from the floor and 86 percent (12-for-14) from the free-throw line.

Merbach and the Warriors return to the court on Tuesday when they host Lakeland (17-6, 11-4 NAC) for Senior Night at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex. Fans unable to attend the game can follow the action live via audio, stats and video at wlcsports.com.
