CSAC Playoff Berth Still Beckons After Immaculata Loss

More news about: Rosemont

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Earlier this season the Rosemont Ravens (12-12, 8-9 CSAC) would take the Immaculata University Mighty Macs (8-15, 6-10 CSAC) to overtime to earn a thrilling win that helped to turn their season around. Today was a different story as the visiting Ravens could not bounce back from a 2nd half 16-3 run by the home side that put Rosemont behind by 13 points, 48-35 with 6:39 left in the game.

From that point in the game the Ravens put together a 12-4 run of their own to trail by only five points, 52-47 with 1:33 left, and it looked like it might be another close finish between the two schools. Down the stretch the Mighty Macs drained enough free throws and the Ravens did not convert on some key opportunities, leading to the 59-53 defeat.

Rosemont overcame shaky first-half shooting, as the team opened up converting only 3-for-20 from the field and finished tied at 20-20 with the Mighty Macs at the half, despite shooting only 18.5% from the field. The second-half shooting for both teams improved dramatically as Rosemont shot 50% and Immaculata 52.2% from the field in the final 20 minutes. Rosemont ended up shooting 33.3% from the field this afternoon vs. Immaculata's 40.4% overall. The home side was also able to convert more points from the free-throw line, making 21-of-31 compared to Rosemont making 17-of 20, 11 fewer chances. Otherwise, statistically, the teams were very closely matched.

The Ravens had three score in double-figures. Harrison Carsillo (Sr./Collingswood, NJ) notched his 5th double-double of the year with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Justin Chaney (Jr./Williamstown, NJ) scored 15 and DeAndre Jordan  (Jr./Henry E. Lackey/Marbury, Md.) tallied 13 for Rosemont.

Immaculata was led by Nelson Torres (18 points) and Rob Siter (16 points).

In what appears to be a crazy finish to the season, the CSAC playoff picture is starting to firm up at the top with Cabrini, Keystone and Gwynedd-Mercy earning berths. The Ravens (8-9) are in a mix of four teams chasing down the last three playoff spots with Centenary (8-9), Neumann (8-9) and Marywood (7-9).

Rosemont's final regular-season game of the year is of utmost importance, as they travel to play Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, Pa. on Wednesday, 2/15. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm.
