GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy defeated Neumann Saturday afternoon, 89-77, at the Griffin Complex.  With the win, the Griffins pushed their winning streak to six games and clinched the #3 seed for the upcoming CSAC Tournament.

Senior Dan DelConte led the Griffins with 27 points on 8-of-15 shooting.  Gwynedd also received double digit performances from guards Justin Knight with 15 points with six rebounds and Brandyn Wims chipping in with 13 points and dishing out six assists.

Gwynedd-Mercy (16-8, 11-6 CSAC) will host a first-round playoff game next Saturday at 2 p.m.

In first half, the Griffins jumped out of the gate taking a commanding 9-2 lead off of a DelConte layup.  Midway through the period, the Griffins used a 6-0 run to take their largest lead of the half (21-13) on a Doug Berzins driving layup that forced a Neumann timeout.  The Knights chipped back at the lead using a Mike Walukiewicz three-pointer with 12 seconds left in the half, to cut the Gwynedd lead to 37-34 at the break.

After the lead wavered early in the second, the Griffins would finally put their foot to the pedal. A 9-0 run started by a Knight three-pointer followed by a DelConte bucket and a Wims layup gave Gwynedd a 72-61 lead at the 6:30 mark.  Gwynedd would push their advantage to as much thirteen, capping a game-changing 16-4 spurt as DelConte ended a fast break in entertaining fashion, with a no-look pass between his legs to a trailing Berzins for a layup to put the Griffins up 76-63 with 4:23 remaining.  Neumann tried to answer late in the contest, getting within seven, but the Griffins shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the closing minute to secure the victory.

For the game, Gwynedd shot 47.1% (32-of-68) for the game, hitting six three-pointers and connecting on 19-of-26 free throws.  The Griffins defense held Neumann to 37.5% (27-of-72) shooting and forced 14 turnovers, leading to twenty-one points on the other end of the floor.

Neumann paced three players in double digits Terrance Clark led the Knights with 15 points. Walukiewicz and Gerald Bryant added 12 and 10 respectfully.

The Griffins cleaned the glass with a 43-40 rebounding margin. Senior Brandon Sharp pulled down a team high eight rebounds and added seven points.  Frontcourt mate Frank Champion grabbed seven caroms and scored eight on the afternoon.  Mark Blount led Neumann with eight rebounds and added nine points.

GM returns to action Wednesday, February 15th  when they host Philadelphia Biblical in the regular season finale for an 8 p.m. tip-off.  Gwynedd will honor four seniors before the game DelConte, Sharp, Brandon Williams and Brian Reid.
