BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England men's basketball team started the second half with a 21-8 run to overcome a two-point halftime deficit on its way to a 60-48 win over Roger Williams University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play Saturday afternoon at James A. Beaudry Gymnasium.

Senior forward Ryan Knotek (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was torrid behind the arc for the Nor'easters, nailing a career-high five treys on his way to 18 points in leading all scorers. Knotek made 5-of-7 shots from beyond the arc and also had six rebounds.

Sophomore Charles Fenner III (Bronx, N.Y.) added 13 points for UNE (5-16, 5-9 CCC), while senior Marcus Winn (Austin, Texas) finished with 11, including a 3-for-5 performance from long distance, to go with six assists.

Roger Williams (12-9, 8-6 CCC) was led by senior Pat Flanagan (Somerville, Mass.) with 11 points and a game-high nine boards. First-year point guard Ryan Palumbo (Warwick, R.I.) contributed six points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.

Big Blue came out firing in the final stanza, connecting for five three-pointers in the initial 4:32 of the frame (9 possessions). A pair of freebies moments later from senior Brian Jones (Austin, Texas) got the UNE cushion up into double digits (11) at 44-33.

Roger Williams got back within six (52-46) at the 4:49 mark, but could not get any closer. Winn and Flanagan each had nine points in the half to pace their respective teams.

The Nor'easters shot 54 percent (13 of 24) after halftime to aid in the victory.

Although both squads got off to slow starts in the contest, two shots from deep by RWU junior James LeCardi (Fair Haven, N.J.) helped make it 12-2 in favor of the Hawks after 8:27 of action.

Knotek hit three trifectas in the next four possessions for Big Blue to trim the margin to one (12-11). Roger Williams managed to get the lead back up to eight (23-15), but UNE registered the next eight -- including five from Fenner -- to knot things up at 23-23.

LeCardi knocked down his last basket of the day 1:11 left in the first to give the visitors the edge (25-23) at intermission.
