Medaille Men Make it a "Perfect 10" at Home; Cruise Past Hilbert

BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille College men's basketball team improved to (10-0) on their home floor this season as they cruised past crosstown rival Hilbert College (80-63) this evening in AMCC action.

The final score was not indicative of the game as the Mavs led by as many as thirty points with just over four minutes remaining in the second half.  The two teams began the game firing on all cylinders , in what was a tight game for the first ten minutes of the opening half.  However, the Mavs would stay hot and grab a (42-32) lead at the break.

The second half would see Medaille go on an early (13-4) run to grab complete control of the game.  The Mavs depth proved to be a problem for the Hawks as it has been for most of Medaille's opponents thus far this season.

Leading the way was Sean Bellomo who came off the bench to pour in a game high (18) points on (7 of 12) shooting, including a dunk on a clever bounce pass in the lane from Josh Laureano with (14:11) remaining in the 1st half.  That flush gave the Mavs a (16-15) lead, and they would never look back, leding throughout the remainder of the contest.

Setting the tone early for Medaille was Phil Maiarana who knocked down a pair of three pointers on his first three attempts to help weather a quick starting storm from the Hawks.  Maiarana would finish with  (16) points, going (6 for 10) overall from the floor and (3 for 5) from behind the arc.  Senior Angel Flores had a strong day finishing with (13) points on (5 for 6) shooting while also dishing out a game best five assists.

The Mavs continue to shoot the ball very well as they knocked down (57.7%) of their shots for the game and (73.9%) from the charity stripe.  The Mavs bench outscored the Hilbert reserves (37-28) while also dominating the paint as Medaille outscored the Hawks (44-22) in the lane.

The win is the seventh straight for Medaille and they improve to (19-2) overall and remain alone atop the AMCC standings at (13-1).  They will look to stay hot when they host Mt. Aloysius College on Saturday (2/4) at 1:00pm in AMCC action.
