Devils Claim Madison Ave, Hand Rangers Fourth-Straight Loss

More news about: Drew

MADISON, N.J. (December 7, 2011) – Overtime was not in the cards for this evening's Battle of Madison Ave. as Fairleigh Dickinson (2-5) defeated cross-street rival Drew (2-6), 68-51 in Baldwin Gym. After two years of overtime battles, the Devils controlled the game from the start and had four players in double figures.

Junior Terrell Brown (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) led the Rangers with 14 points and snagged four rebounds in a losing effort. The Devils were led by Mike Williamson who totaled 16 points coming off the bench, leading all scorers. The junior made a game-high, four 3-pointers in the contest and was 5-of-9 from the field.

The Devils never trailed in the historic rivalry that dates back to 1973. After the Rangers tied the game up with 12:13 on the clock in the first half, the Devils exploded, scoring the games next 14 points. The Rangers struggled from the field, shooting a dismal 29 percent in the first half and 28 percent for the game. Drew would go into halftime trailing 32-21.

The Rangers found themselves in a similar position last season, trailing by 12 at the half and eventually coming back for an overtime victory. The Devils did not let this year's game slip away and kept the pressure on for the final 20 minutes of play.

Fairleigh Dickinson took advantage of a poor shooting night by the Rangers and did not allow the home team to get within single digits for the remainder of the game. An 8-0 run beginning at the 3:34 mark pushed the visiting team lead to 22 points and handed the Rangers their first home loss of the season.

Senior Dara Mc Keon (Dunboyne, Ireland/St. Peter's College) had a hot hand early and finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Adam Katz and Will Green each added 11 points with Katz registering a game-high six assists.

The Rangers will have nine days rest to prepare for Keystone College on December 16th in Baldwin Gym. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. next Friday night.
