Augsburg edges Concordia-Moorhead 72-71

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (SR, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) connected on a jumper with four seconds remaining to give the Augsburg College men's basketball team a 72-71 victory over host Concordia College-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Auditorium.

In a back-and-forth game that saw 13 tie scores and never a lead of more than seven, the Auggies were able to register the final tally of the afternoon and complete the men's and women's doubleheader sweep. After trailing 66-59 with 5:59 remaining in the game, Augsburg put together an 8-0 to retake the lead 67-66. The Cobbers scored on back-to-back possessions to go up 70-67 before Grzesiak-Grimm connected on 1-for-2 from the free throw line to pull the score to 70-68 with 2:45 left in second-half.

Tyler Schmidt (JR, Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson HS) came up with a big steal for the Auggies and David Weber (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) hit a key jumper to tie things up at 70-70 with 1:51 to play. Concordia hit 1-of-2 from the free-throw line to go up 71-70 with 35 seconds left in the action but Grzesiak-Grimm claimed the final basket of the afternoon, a jump shot with 4 seconds left to seal the 72-71 victory for the Auggies.

Augsburg (12-6 overall, 9-4 MIAC) was led by Grzesiak-Grimm, who claimed the only double-double of the afternoon, scoring 12 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Andy Seidlitz (SO, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and David Weber (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) both scored career-highs to lead the Auggies offensively. Seidlitz scored 18 points, including a 4-for-8 performance from beyond the arc, while Weber scored 15 points, hitting 6-of-10 from the floor.

Concordia (7-11 overall, 5-8 MIAC) was led by Dewon McKenzie, who scored 15 points, two assists and two steals.

For the game, Augsburg shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53), including 56.5 percent (13-of-23) in the second-half, while Concordia hit 52.7 percent (29-of-55) of its shots. The Auggies claimed a 34-32 advantage on the boards and a 30-17 advantage in bench scoring.

Augsburg returns to action on Monday (1/30) with a key MIAC matchup against Gustavus Adolphus College at Si Melby Hall.
