GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Junior Frank Champion scored 18 of his career-high 24 points in the second half to help Gwynedd-Mercy end a three-game skid in handling Marywood, 80-55 on Saturday afternoon.

It was also a big half shooting-wise, as the Griffins (11-8, 6-6 CSAC) connected on a 67.9% (19-for-28) clip, turning a four-point halftime lead into a runaway victory.

Champion finished 9-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from the line. Senior Dan DelConte chipped in 19 points with a game-high eight assists.

Brent Keyes led the Pacers (7-12, 6-6 CSAC) with 13 points. Pierre Bakinde totaled 11 points and seven rebounds.

The first half was neck-and-neck, as the stanza saw six lead changes and six ties. Neither team would lead by more than four points. DelConte scored the final five points of the period, the last coming on a three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining, giving GM a 30-26 edge which they would hold into the intermission.

The Griffins came out hot to start the second, using a game-changing 25-7 run to start the half. Back-to-back treys from DelConte and freshman Brandon Knight put Gwynedd up, 55-33, at the 12-minute mark to which the Pacers could not recover from.

GM won the battle of the glass, 40-27. Knight pulled down nine boards to lead GM. Junior Doug Berzins and freshman Tom McKeefery each had five.

Knight scored 12 points while Berzins added 10. Gwynedd shot 31-of-58 (53.4%) for the game and 7-of-22 from downtown. DelConte hit five of those treys. Marywood was just 19-of-51 (37.3%) from the floor and 4-of-21 from behind the arc.
