The Lake Forest College men's basketball team edged out visiting Lawrence University 66-65 on Saturday. The evening began with a Parents Day celebration and ended with a Forester victory and a double-double for senior forward Drew Grennell.

Grennell scored a season-high 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. It was his first double-double of the season and third in his career. Senior post player Travis Clark also reached double figures in points with 18 and rebounds with a career-high 17. Clark added five assists and three blocked shots.

Forester junior point guard Jeff Beck and sophomore guard James Stack chipped in with nine points apiece and Beck matched Clark's five assists.

Lake Forest shot just 40.9 percent from the floor while the Vikings connected on 45.5 percent of their field goal attempts. Lawrence also had a significant edge in three-pointers, making 10 of 23 attempts while the Foresters were just 5-for-18. The home team made up for a tough shooting day by out-rebounding Lawrence 46-31.

The Foresters jumped out to a 13-2 lead but the Vikings battled back and led by as many as four in the first half, which ended with Lake Forest leading 33-32.

Each team made just one basket in the first five minutes of the second half. The score was tied at 42 before an 11-4 Forester run, capped off by a Grennell three-pointer, gave the home team a 53-46 advantage with eight minutes to play. Lawrence chipped away at the deficit and regained a one-point lead on a three-pointer with two-and-a-half minutes left. Stack responded with a three-pointer of his own with 2:01 remaining. A Lawrence free throw with 54 seconds to play made it a one-point game but a basket by Clark gave the home team a 66-63 advantage with 30 seconds on the clock.  A Vikings layup 12 seconds later turned out to be the final score of the game. Clark was unable to clinch the win at the free throw line just a few seconds later but did so with a rebound with two seconds left.

Lake Forest is now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Midwest Conference play this season. Lawrence fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.

The Foresters will play a non-conference game at Carthage College Tuesday night at 7:00.
