New York, NY --- Head Coach Steve Podias earned his 200th career victory tonight as the Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 93-73, in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match earlier tonight at the Doghouse.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 11-6 overall on the season and 4-3 in the CUNYAC; while the Bloodhounds fall to 8-11 overall on the year and 1-6 in the conference.

Senior guard Tyshawn Russell led all scorers for BC with a game-high 31 points on 13-for-23 shooting from the field, including going 4-for-5 from three and 1-for-2 from the free throw line. Classmate and backcourt partner Amil John netted 19 points, while dishing out a game-best seven assists and grabbing eight rebounds. Junior Kavon Baker added 18 points and nine rebounds, while classmate Steven Grant registered a double-double with 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

For John Jay, Isaiah Holman dropped a team-high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Jerome Alexander added 20 points. Swindon Charles and Jamar Harry each chipped in with 10 points. Charles also grabbed a game-best 18 rebounds to record a double-double.

The beginning of the first half featured a tight affair with two ties and four lead changes. After a Holman layup made it 15-14 in favor of BC with 13:39 remaining in the period, the Bulldogs offense exploded with a 20-0 run to take a 35-14 lead at the 7:18 mark. Brooklyn would lead by as many as 25 (44-19), before taking a 52-30 advantage into the halftime break. The Bulldogs shot a blistering 56.8% (21-37) from the field in the first half, including 66.7% (8-12) from three.

The Bloodhounds first half deficit would be too large to overcome, as Brooklyn would lead by double figures the rest of the way en route to its 93-73 victory.

For the game, BC shot 52.1% (37-71) from the field and 62.5% (10-16) from downtown, while shooting 69.2% (9-13) from the free throw line.

John Jay shot 36.2% (25-69) from the field, while being held to just 23.8% (5-21) from three. The Bloodhounds also shot 64.3% (18-28) from the charity stripe.

BC also won the battle of the glass, out-rebounding John Jay 48-40.

Coach Podias, currently in his 18th season at the helm of the BC Men's Basketball program, guided Brooklyn to back-to-back CUNYAC Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2009 and 2010. He also led his team to an ECAC Tournament appearance in 2008. Coach Podias has recorded three 20-win seasons in his career.

Brooklyn returns to action this Saturday, January 28th, as the Bulldogs return home to the West Quad Center to take on the Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY) in a CUNYAC match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
