Plattsburgh Men Fall to Fredonia 70-63

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team (6-8, 4-4 SUNYAC) fell to SUNY Fredonia (8-6, 3-5 SUNYAC) 70-63 at Steele Hall in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Friday.
 
The Cardinals had four players record double-digit scoring, but could not turn a 30-29 halftime lead into a victory.
 
The Blue Devils opened the second half with a 14-0 run that lasted over six minutes.
 
The Cardinals came roaring back and eventually took the lead at 6:32 when Mike Mitchell knocked down a three pointer to give the Cardinals a 52-50 edge.

The Blue Devils responded with a thunderous dunk on a fast break by Kevin Mitchell to tie it at 52-all. After a missed jumper by the Cardinals, the Blue Devils nailed a three to make it 55-52. Plattsburgh was called for a foul immediately after the shot and Fredonia nailed two free throws making it 57-52.

From there, the Blue Devils held the lead the rest of the way, with Plattsburgh twice coming within two points of tieing the game.
 
Shavar Fields led the way for the Cardinals, scoring 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. John Perez scored 15 points after going 6-of-10 from the field. Mike Mitchell and Jordan Moody added 11 points each from the bench and Mitchell also dished out four assists.

The Blue Devils were led by Julius Bryant and Amir Billups with 17 apiece. Billups connected for five three-point baskets.  Leonard Smith added 11 and Mitchell finished with 10.

The Devils held a 34-26 advantage on the boards.
