No. 18 William Paterson Men’s Basketball Easily Handles Rutgers-Camden for 67-45 Victory

WAYNE, N.J. – No. 18 William Paterson (16-2, 7-1 NJAC) ended the first half with a 16-3 run and never looked back, easily handling Rutgers-Camden (2-15, 0-7 NJAC) for a 67-45 men's basketball victory Jan. 21.

 

Junior guard/forward Lance Brown (Teaneck, N.J./Paterson Catholic) scored a game-best 20 points on 8-for-13 (.615) shooting while adding six rebounds, and classmate Corey Chandler (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) contributed 13 tallies, eight boards, five assists and eight steals.  Freshman guard Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) chipped in five points and eight rebounds for WP.

 

Knotted at 18-18 at the 8:08 mark, the Pioneers seized control of the game by scoring 16 of the final 19 points of the first half, forcing the Scarlet Raptors into 1-for-11 (.091) shooting and five turnovers down the stretch for a 34-21 halftime score.

 

Rutgers-Camden briefly made it a one-possession game early in the second period (34-31, 16:19), but five straight scores by the Pioneers quickly made it a 14-point margin at 45-31 with 12:44 remaining. 

 

William Paterson owned a 9-0 edge in second-chance points and was 12-for-16 (.750) at the charity stripe, while Rutgers-Camden missed its only two free-throw opportunities.

 

Freshman James McLane (Belleville, N.J./Queen of Peace) had seven points and three steals in 14 minutes off the bench, and freshman Najea Brown (Newark, N.J./St. Anthony) dished out four assists.

 

Josh Stevens, Woody Redding and James Coleman all scored eight points for the Scarlet Raptors.  Michael Williams pulled down a game-best nine rebounds.

 

William Paterson will visit Rowan Saturday, Jan. 28, at 3:00 p.m.
