BANGOR, Maine -- Andrew Dickey (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) nailed a 3-pointer as time expired as the University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team rallied from 18 points down to stun Husson University 67-64 in North Atlantic Conference action tonight at Newman Gymnasium.

The Beavers (8-6 overall, 8-1 NAC) are scheduled to host Maine Maritime Academy in NAC play Saturday (women at 1 p.m., men to follow). The Eagles slipped to 5-10 (5-4).

Dickey's buzzer-beater capped a wild rollercoaster ride for the Beavers. A midgame 26-5 stretch spanning both halves helped the hosts take a 45-27 command on a Eric Modica three with 14:48 to play. UMF chipped the lead down to 50-41 and outscored Husson 20-9 over more than six minute back-to-back 3-pointers by Pet Sumner (Cramerton, N.C.) and Kevin Leary (Manchester, Maine) giving the Beavers a 61-59 edge with 1:28 to play.

After a Mike Gonzales layup evened the score at 61-61 with 42 seconds remaining, Leary delivered another three with 10 seconds left to put UMF ahead 64-61. Gonzales again tied the game when he was  fouled shooting a three and knocked down all of the free throws with a little over four seconds left. Dan Kane (Bradford, Maine) carried the inbound down the sideline and found Dickey across court who buried the 35-foot attempt as UMF escaped with the 67-64 win.

Leary and Sumner finished with 14 points apiece for the Beavers, while Kane scored 13 points and handed out eight assists and Ben Johnson (Manchester, Maine) registered 12 points and nine rebounds. Leary also grabbed seven boards and made three steals in the victory.

Modica led all scorers with 17 points, including 10 in the opening half as Husson bounced back from a 13-4 early deficit to take a 33-24 lead into intermission. Gonzales turned in 12 points in the loss with Marc Zaharchuk posting 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

UMF outshot the hosts 43.6 percent (24-55) to 39.6 (21-53), including 45.5 percent (10-22) from beyond the arc. Husson shot 25 percent (4-16) from 3-point range.
