(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 96-83, to Wilmington College tonight (Wednesday, January 18, 2012) in a non-conference game at Fred Raizk Arena in Wilmington, Ohio.

With the loss the Saints fall to 10-7 on the season and with the win, the Quakers improve to 8-7.

Wilmington jumped out to a 21-13 lead with 9:29 to play in the first half when Ben Vonderhaar made a jumper.  Thomas More answered with an 8-4 run capped by a jumper by senior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) with 7:55 to play in the half to cut the lead to 25-21.  Wilmington's Antonio Bowman completed a three-point play with 7:09 to play in the opening half to increase the lead to 28-21.  the Saints responded with a 13-3 run to take a 34-31 lead when sophomore point guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) made two free-throws with 2:19 to play in the first half.  The Quakers cut the lead to 34-33 at halftime when Brandon Candella made a lay-up with 52-seconds to play in the half.

Wilmington opened the second half on a 17-10 run to take a 50-44 lead with 14:44 to play in the game when Bowman made one-of-two free-throws.  Thomas More answered with an 8-4 run to cut the lead to 54-52 when sophomore power forward Josef Marshall (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) made a lay-up with 9:53 to play in the game.  Wilmington used an 18-6 run to extend the lead to 72-58 with 4:33 to play in the game when Dwight Johnson made a jumper.  Stafford capped a 5-0 Saints' run with two free-throws with 3:34 to play in the game to cut the lead to 72-63.  That would be as close as the Saints would come as the Quakers closed out the game on a 24-20 run for the 93-83 victory.

Five Saints reached double-figure scoring as freshman small forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) had a game-high 15 points, Stafford and senior point guard Daniel Whelan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) each had 13 points and junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) and senior shooting guard Todd Krohman (Florence, Ky./Boone County) each scored 10 points.  Feinberg led the team on the boards with a seven rebounds and Whelan led the team in assists with five.

Thomas More will begin the second half on the PAC schedule on Saturday (January 21) when it hosts Geneva College at 3 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
